One of our favorite parts of starting every new year is looking forward to all the travel to come. It is a blank slate with so much possibility.
If last year’s trends told us anything, it’s that small towns are king and that travelers are trading in their comfortable tourist traps for authentic experiences. They not only want adventure but to truly relax and make time for self-care.
Using our own broad inventory and locales as inspiration, we asked our team members to share their 2020 travel goals; where they want to stay, what they want to do, and how they make time to truly unwind while traveling.

The brand new Apex community is redefining slopeside living in Park City. Not only are all the units meticulously crafted with luxury elements, but every unit in this community boasts ski-in/ski-out access to PCMR. Ski or snowboard to the shops, restaurants, and après ski haunts of Canyons Village, or stay on the grounds and enjoy the community pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness center, and game room.
A new era of ski lodging has emerged from this project. We cannot wait to experience it firsthand.
We would head right out the door and get in a few turns. The best way to rent skis or a snowboard is to schedule a fitting with Ski Butlers for the first day of the trip, they will come to the rental. We know we tout this company a lot, but after working with thousands of guests over 10 years, we’ve learned what a HUGE value add this is for travelers.
During the winter months, Main Street is buzzing with excitement. There are historic shops thoughtfully transformed into art galleries, local boutiques, outdoor outfitters, and a myriad of bars and restaurants ranging from the casual to the high-end. We would spend an evening exploring the main drag, eat at a local brewery, and share a round at a local bar or cocktail lounge. It is very easy to get around using the free Park City Transit System.
This unique offering is a 5-star off the slopes Park City activity. We would head to the Red Flower hot room where their team help groups create individual pieces from start to finish. We are so excited to get a behind the scenes look into the world of glass blowing this season!

We want to head to Whistler for the 2020 World Ski & Snowboard Festival. This 5-day event offers non-stop competitions, concerts, art, plus some of the most exciting nightlife and après sessions of the whole season. The WSSF is a local’s favorite. This event is an endcap to the ski season and Whistler likes to go out in style.
Stonebridge Retreat’s heli access means we could board a helicopter from the airport and fly directly to the property, then heli-ski or set out on other heli-excursions such as ice cave exploration, mountain biking, fishing, yachting, hot springs adventures, hiking…all right from the front door. This home is the gateway to unforgettable experiences in Whistler’s backcountry.
Whistler Blackcomb is considered the largest ski resort in North America with over 8,171 acres of accessible terrain serviced by 36 lifts and the longest continuous lift system on the globe. This area also boasts a particularly long ski season meaning that come April there will still be prime powder. There is no way that we would make it up to Whistler without getting as much time on the slopes as possible.
Nothing is more serious to a Whistler skier than the tradition, nay, the ritual of apres ski. After a day on the slopes we would head to one of the hundreds of local haunts and raise a glass to another great day out on the mountain. From there, we would enjoy the free concerts that are put on throughout the festival, then spend a night out on the town.

As soon as the pictures came in of this beachfront Tahoe property, all of us started dreaming of digging our toes into the pebble sand and listening to the water lap onto the beach. Marla Bay Lakefront Escape is right on the water with a bird’s eye view of the crystal blue ripples that stretch to the mountains on the opposite shoreline. There is no denying that this little alcove and stretch of sand is truly special and beloved.
That view cannot be denied. We would leave the luggage in the car and head straight to the water…take a deep breath…and just listen. The rest can wait for a bit.
Recently we’ve heard of our guests carving out device-free time with their family and friends. We can think of no better way to start a trip than to put the phones and tablets away and play a card game, cook a meal, or just sit and enjoy the view with good company.
Lake Tahoe is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. We would get out and enjoy something that we have never done before: Hike an underwater trail, go parasailing, mountain bike the Flume trail, jet ski, or take a standup paddleboarding lesson. We would make it a point to take advantage of all the incredible lake offerings and enjoy the thrill of learning something new.
The location of this incredible home offers easy access to a private swath of beach. We would spread out a blanket, pack a picnic basket and soak up a store of rays that will last us until the end of winter.

As the days shorten and the shadows lengthen, Malibu’s coastline cools to a tepid 80-degree average. There is nowhere that we would rather enjoy this uniquely pleasant weather than from Il Pelicano. Described as “The Crown Jewel of the Malibu Coast,” Il Pelicano is tucked onto a rocky promontory overlooking a stretch of pristine Pacific shoreline.
Some vacations are for staying in, for slowing the pace, for dedicating entire days to reading, relaxing, and pampering. If there is anywhere that we could choose to revive ourselves before the impending winter, it would be here, with the sound of the waves lapping up on the private beach and the feel of the breeze in our hair.
We could wax poetic all day about this property. There is something otherworldly about it like it’s been transported from another era. First, we would pack up a picnic basket with wine, bread, cheese, and any other local delicacies we could get our hands on and walk out the wrought iron fence to the secluded beach. Here we would enjoy an afternoon lounging in the sand, dipping our toes in the water, and unwinding ourselves from all that awaits us back home.
There are so many incredible local wineries in and around the Malibu area. If we were to leave the property at all during our trip, it would be to do a few tastings — if only to be able to bring back a few quality bottles to enjoy on the rooftop terrace.
Since the location of this property is so secluded and reviving, we would take the relaxation on this trip a step further. We would hire an in-home masseuse, facialist, and a private chef to prepare meals for us throughout the week.
