Experience Lake Tahoe activities like a local

Lake Tahoe in the summertime is truly amazing. It makes sense that it hosts over 3 million visitors every year! That said, when you’re vacationing the last thing you want to do is get stuck in long lines at crowded events. When traveling to Tahoe get off the beaten path and experience these five Lake Tahoe activities like a local.

Bike Brewery Hop

Award-winning micro-breweries have been popping up all over the south shore. Rent a bike at South Shore Bikes and ride to the tap room at Lake Tahoe AleWorX for your first round and ask a bartender to suggest where to head for stop two. South Tahoe is relatively flat, so you can leisurely pedal to your next flight of craft beer without breaking a sweat.

Mountain Bike the Flume Trail

The Flume Trail is known as one of the premier mountain biking trails in the world!  This is by no means a beginner’s ride but for the enthusiast, it is an incomparable experience. You can rent a bike at Tunnel Creek Station. From there you can jump on their shuttle up to the trailhead at Spooner Lake. This trail features a 4-mile climb up to Marlette Lake, 7 miles of traversing single-track overlooking Lake Tahoe and a descent down to Tunnel Creek Station where you can celebrate your experience with a much-deserved cold beverage.

Cliff-Dive the Angora Lakes… or, Just Take a Dip

Hike up to Angora Lakes above Fallen Leaf Lake. These two large lakes have a small store that serves snacks and they provide rental kayaks and canoes. Lay out on the beach with a glass of Angora Lake Resort’s “world famous” lemonade. This clear, green swimming hole is known for its tall cliffs where the more adventurous among us can dive into the cool water below. The stunning landscape and pristine water are a perfect reward for your trek up the mountain.

Stand-up Paddleboard North Lake Tahoe

There is no better place to stand up paddleboard then over the crystal-clear and still waters of Lake Tahoe. On a glassy day, it’s a surreal experience to be gliding over the water while peering down 60 feet at the rocks below the surface. Tahoe Paddle and Oar offer rentals, tours and easy access to the water on King’s Beach.

Take a Night Time Stroll on the Beach

There is something otherworldly about walking along the beach at night. Let your eyes adjust in the dark and allow yourself to be guided by the moonlight. The buzz and movement of the daytime crowd are balanced by the stillness at night. Dig your toes in the sand. Listen to the water gently roll onto the beach. Take in the blanket of stars above you. These are the incredible moments on any trip that make you never want to leave and draw you back year after year.
