January 14, 2020 by Rachelle
Winter in Lake Tahoe offers just as much beauty and outdoor entertainment as in the summer. We spoke with our regional director of operations in Lake Tahoe to give you the local’s guide on what to do and where to eat all over this all-season mountain region.
Here are #7 activities that should be on your Lake Tahoe bucket list this winter.
Of course, going skiing or snowboarding is a must. Would you like to ski or snowboard from California to Nevada? Is the après ski scene most important to you? Do you want the chance to ride a chairlift with an Olympian? Are you looking for the uncrowded, steep and deep terrain? With 14 ski resorts in the Tahoe basin, there is something for everyone this winter in Lake Tahoe. Specify what type of experience you are looking for, and your concierge will give you a customized recommendation and can help you plan out all of the details before your arrival.
#2 Cross-Country Skiing/Snowshoeing
Not all outdoor winter sports have to be action-packed, although these will still get your heart pumping. Some outdoor adventures cause you to slow down the pace a bit. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are a perfect way to get out and explore the beautiful Tahoe terrain. Enjoy a snowshoeing adventure with little to now expertise. If it’s your first time on cross-country skis, make sure to take a lesson. Hope Valley offers rentals and over 60 miles of trails. If you want to stay closer to the lake, check out rentals at Camp Richardson and catch lunch at the Beacon Bar and Grill!
#3 Snowmobiling Tours
Zephyr Cove offers over 45 miles of trails reaching elevations of up to 9,000 feet. Not only will their team give lessons, and provide clothing rentals, they will guide you through towering pines and aspens to scenic views of Lake Tahoe. Whether it’s your first time on the throttle or if you are a sledding expert, there is a guided snowmobile tour for you to enjoy this winter in Lake Tahoe.
#4 Squaw Valley Village and Olympic Museum
Check out the many restaurants and retail shops at the Squaw Valley Village and then learn all about the Winter Olympics held in Lake Tahoe in 1960 at the Olympic Museum. Entertain the family and take an aerial tram ride with views of Lake Tahoe. There is plenty for everyone in your group to enjoy at Squaw Valley Village!
#5 Sleigh Ride
Take a private, lakeside sleigh ride at Sand Harbor State Park. Cozy up with the family through towering pines and spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. The kids will love meeting the Belgian horses that pull the sleigh, and this is the perfect opportunity to stop and get beautiful photos of the family along the way.
#6 Off-Road Adventure
Enjoy an experience that is literally off the beaten path. Take an off-road ATV tour with Full Access Tahoe. Winter or summer there are trails to explore. This is great for team building or a group event. From beginner trails to expert back-country tours everyone in your group is sure to have a blast!
#7 Eat Your Way Through Lake Tahoe:
