Maroon Bells – One of the most photographed sites in all of the United States, Maroons Bells is a pair of twin peaks that reach more than 14,000 feet in elevation. They sit just 11 miles southwest of Aspen, which makes for a quick and easy day trip. The area is filled with beautiful sites: majestic peaks, multicolored mountainsides, wildlife, the beautiful Maroon Lake and so much more.
Independence Pass Independence Pass is one of the most scenic drives in all of the United States. But, it’s not for the faint of heart. This windy pass tops out at more than 12,000 feet elevation, and there are stretches of the road with no guard rails. Check out this time lapse video of a drive through the pass to get a preview of what you’re in for.
Silver Queen Gondola – Take a ride to the top of Aspen Mountain on the luxurious Silver Queen Gondola. In this quick 10-minute trip, you’ll be treated to some truly amazing views. And your destination will be exciting any time of the year. In the winter you can ride to ski, snowboard and snowshoe. In the summer months, you’ll find hiking, disc golf, concerts and more at the summit.
Snowmass – If winter sports are on your mind, you have to check out Snowmass, Aspen’s largest and most popular ski area. Located approximately 8 miles west of Aspen, Snowmass offers more than 3,100 acres of skiable terrain, including 17 chair lifts and 88 different runs.
The Hot Springs Pool at Glenwood Springs – If you’re in need of relaxation, come check out the world’s largest hot springs pool. Fair warning: This is definitely a day trip, as Glenwood Springs is about 40 miles northwest of Aspen. But, it’s so worth it.
