Palm Springs Winter Bucket List

Palm Springs in the winter makes for an excellent desert oasis getaway. Not only is the weather ideal, not too hot and not too cold, there are many activities for all ages to enjoy as well. Whether you are on a solo trip in search of solitude, or with loved ones looking to make memories, there is plenty to keep you busy during the winter in Palm Springs.

These are the top 8 things to do during the winter in Palm Springs.

#1 Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Snow in Palm Springs? Unfathomable, but yes, you can play in the snow during the winter in Palm Springs at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Take a 10-minute ride from the desert floor and the tram will transport you to a winter wonderland. Up here there is a 30 degree temperature difference, allowing you to play in the snow. You can go hiking, sledding, and snowshoeing. End your day with a delicious meal at one of the mountaintop restaurants. From here, you will be able to look out at the spectacular views from 8,500 feet. Once you head back down to the desert floor, you can put your bikini back on and enjoy the warm weather again at the pool.

#2 Shopping on El Paseo

Take a stroll down El Paseo, the premier shopping district in Palm Springs. Beautiful winter décor will be on display to set the mood. You can finish up shopping for everything on your souvenier checklist or maybe even just grab something special for yourself. When you need a break from the stores, grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants nearby, like Tommy Bahamas or Pacifica Seafood.

#3 Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park is a short 40-minute drive from downtown Palm Springs, making it a perfect day trip during your stay. Winter is a great time to wander through these mysterious groves of trees, with temperatures in the 60s and only light flurries of snow making
an appearance now and again. Take an adventure through the amazing rock formations and you may just catch a big horn sheep wandering around or a desert tortoise looking for a cozy spot to take cover. There are a million photo opportunities in this
vast desert park, so make sure that you don’t forget your camera!

#4 Palm Springs Indian Canyons

Take an unforgettable journey through one of the three majestic Palm Springs Indian Canyons. You can hike through groves of large palms and huge rock formations untouched by time. Go on a guided horseback ride through the area where Native Americans originally settled in Palm Springs or go on fo Tradiot to find a quiet spot to relax and take in the views. You’ll even find beautiful streams and quiet areas to meditate. Don’t miss the hidden waterfall or the fabulous shopping on your way out at the Trading Post.

#5 Golfing

There are several great golfing options throughout Palm Springs, and winter is one of the best times to take advantage. With the weather at its perfect temperature (mid to low 60s and 70s) and sunshine throughout the day, it is the ideal season for golfing.  At your request, your concierge can set up a tee time at a course of your choice. For those not interested in golfing there is also FootGolf to try out, which is a popular combination of soccer and golf. Palm Springs is home to the AFGL American
Footgolf Federation, so there are a few of these courses nearby to choose from as well.

#6 Ice Skating at Desert Ice Castle

Whether you are a pro or new to skating, you are sure to have a great time at this indoor ice skating rink in Palm Springs. You can perfect your moves on the ice at the Desert Ice Castle, then head back outside to warm up in the sunshine and grab some ice cream. It is winter in the desert after all. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds here?

#7 Palm Springs Air Museum

Come tour the famous Palm Springs Air Museum, where you will be able to get a closeup view of planes that were flown during WW2 and the Vietnam War. You can even listen to recorded stories about missions flown in these planes told by actual war veterans. After your tour, take a personal flight over the valley in one of the classic Warbirds housed at the museum. It is an experience you won’t forget.
