Park City is a celebrated mountain community that enjoys some of the best powder in the country. In Park City, there are endless opportunities for winter adventure that everyone in your group can enjoy – from world-class skiing to family-friendly tubing, snowshoeing, and more.
To help make sure that you don’t miss out on your next Park City trip, here are 15 activities that should be on your Park City Winter bucket list!
Park City has long boasted that it has “The Greatest Snow on Earth.” The average snowfall in Park City is over 320 inches per year; the ‘lake effect’ from the Great Salt Lake causes massive snowfall. The high elevation and low humidity result in light, fluffy snow – the perfect powder. Whether you want to ski at Deer Valley or grab your skis and board and head to Park City Mountain Resort, the free in-town transportation system means that you can easily access the lifts without having to fight for parking. Utopian also offers many ski-in/ski-out options at Deer Valley or PCMR (including the Colony in Canyons Village) so you can get those turns in before the rest of town shows up. When you book a stay with Utopian, your concierge can schedule a Ski Butler to come directly to you at your rental and fit you for boots and skis or a snowboard. No long lines in the ski shop!
Head to the Park City Olympic Park. The winter bobsled experience offers public sessions so you can finally check that little box next to bobsledding and skeleton off your bucket list. Seriously, watch this… that could be you! (Riders must be 16+ years of age and 100+ lbs. Typically open December 18 to March 31.)
The Midway Ice Castles are a stunning light and ice installation. Using meticulously placed icicles and lights, the structures create an other-worldly display. The attraction includes breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and much more. Be sure to dress warm and wear non-slip boots so that you can take your time exploring this imaginative display.
There is nothing like zipping down a snowy hill to bring the kid out in everyone. This is a great ‘on the slopes’ activity that requires no lessons or experience. Many of the main tobogganing hills in Park City provide tube rentals and have conveyor belts that carry you up the slopes. Visit the brand new Woodward facility and Soldier Hollow Tubing. Enjoy the thrill of the descent without the dreaded climb back up the hill.
On the last Friday of every month participating galleries up and down Main Street open their doors, inviting locals and visitors alike to enjoy the lively Park City art scene. The monthly event is the perfect way to explore this mountain town’s thriving art culture as well as peruse Historic Main Street.
Strap on your snowshoes and take a peaceful trek through the forest. Enjoy a tranquil stroll in the pines or pick up the pace for a heart-pumping climb. Take a tour with All Seasons Adventures. Go stargazing or hike out to a private smores pit to enjoy a well-deserved treat.
With the guidance of a professional musher from All Seasons Adventures, you can experience what it’s like to harness and stage the dog team, then be whisked away over the ice and snow in the back-country. You can meet the dogs and even have the opportunity to guide a sled (depending on the tour you choose). Bundle up tight, cuddle up close, and don’t forget your camera!
Shop, drink, and dine! On Historic Main Street you’ll find historic shops thoughtfully transformed into art galleries, local boutiques, outdoor outfitters, as well as a myriad of bars and restaurants ranging from the casual to the high-end. This old-town main drag has preserved the western architectural aesthetic of days past, yet has a flair for modern luxury. You cannot make it to Park City and not spend time strolling the Historic Main Street.
Following a day out on the slopes, it is a time-honored tradition to partake in après ski. Park City has no end of swanky or casual spots to toast a long, cold day on the mountain. Come sip spiked beverages and swap stories fireside with new and old friends. Enjoy one of our local favorites: High West Distillery, No Name Saloon, or The Cabin.
This is a true bucket list item! The Sundance Film Festival is one of the most iconic events in Park City, Utah. It allows independent filmmakers to present their works and lets the audience have a say. Speak directly with directors, actors, and more and change how you experience the film industry. Enjoy this annual cultural event from one of our many Main Street properties. Walk to the theatres, music events, and after-parties from your luxury rental.
Take ski lessons from an Olympian! Reach out to your concierge for the chance to get pointers from the best athletes in the world. Ski lessons from the best instructors book out way in advance. If you have kids or first-time skiers/snowboarders in your party, you will want lessons. Proper instruction means that everyone in the group can safely enjoy their time out on the slopes. Our team can help you select and book the best instructors in the area.
